A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Shabbir Ahmed and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on Wednesday allowed four weeks time to Pakistan Post Office in Kutchery post office fraud case.
When the petitions filed by M. Ilyas Khan advocate and 20 other petitioners and account holders came up for hearing, Nasir J.R. Shaikh advocate appearing for the Post Master General, Pakistan and requested to allow three week time to arrange for making payment to the petitioners according to entries in their pass books.
He also assured that profit on these deposits will also be worked out and paid subsequently. The bench recorded the statement of the counsel and allowed four-week time directing the counsel to ensure payment of principal amount to the petitioners within given time.
The petitioners moved the court after one Izhar Siddiqui swindled rupees 290 million deposited by the account holders and embezzled the same.
The said person was allowed to work after retirement and collect the deposits of account holders.
The scam was unearthed when some account holders issued cheques, which bounced. Most of the victims belong to lawyers community. On a complaint NAB also registered a case and arrested main accused Izhar Siddiqui.
Another bench of SHC comprising Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro adjourned hearing of bail plea of Ahsan Baseer Shaikh, Post Master General, co-accused in the Kutchery fraud case till May 19.
