Senators and members of National Assembly of PML-Q from Punjab have reposed complete confidence in the leadership of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the head of the party, and assured him that they would back his decisions regarding the unification of various factions of the League and the appointments of party office bearers.
They gave this assurance at an advisory meeting of the PML-Q, which held at the residence of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain here on Sunday.
The meeting discussed the strategy about the 12th May's joint meeting of Leaguers. The participants lauded the initiative of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for consulting his companions on the issue of unification.
The meeting also passed a resolution which said that parliamentarians of PML-Q from Punjab and office-bearers of the party express complete trust in Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and assure him of their full support and co-operation in his initiatives to make the party more functional and effective at grassroots level.
In the resolution the participants of the meeting empowered Chaudhry Shujaat in taking decisions regarding unification of various factions of League and making nominations and appointments for various party offices.
The participants, however, categorically ruled out the possibility of making Prime Minister Jamali as secretary general of the Party.
They also criticised the Prime Minister and said he was misusing his discretionary funds and accommodating his favourites.
They also criticised him for making appointments in various institutions to please his friends. "He (Jamali) has no time to meet us and listen to our grievances," he said while lashing out at him.
About the unification the meeting was of the consensus view the conditions set by Pir Pagara were not acceptable and categorically sated that they were opposed to conditional unification.
Addressing the meeting Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that all the meetings so far held to discuss the issue of unification have made headway. He said that the doors of PML-Q will remain open for the new entrants.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi also said that it was unfortunate that in the past there has been no tradition of consultation within the party. "But now we have made this tradition, which will continue in future," he added.
Federal Information Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed speaking on the occasion criticised the chaudhry's for inviting media in the meeting.
He said that they (Chaudhrys) had deliberately invited media to make them realise that there were differences in the party on various issues. About the appointments for the party offices, he said that Jamali could be made as secretary general of party.
The meeting was attended among others by Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Lieutenant General Abdul Majid Malik (Retd), Federal Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan, Federal Health Minister Naseer Khan, Sikandar Bosan, Danial Aziz, Advisor to Prime Minister Nilofer Bakhtiar and other members of the federal cabinet.
Punjab Law Minister Basharat Raja and other Punjab cabinet members also attended the meeting.
