Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said on Monday the people of Pakistan do not believe in fanaticism or extremism, rather they believe in enlightened moderation.
"We believe in enlightened moderation and we are promoting an Islamic, moderate, enlightened and progressive society," the Prime Minister observed, while talking to a delegation of Foreign Relations Committee of the British Parliament, which called on him here at the Prime Minister's House.
The Prime Minister briefed the committee on Pak-Afghan relations, relations with neighbouring countries and Pakistan's role in war against terror.
He highlighted Pakistan's role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation process in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister informed the committee that rail and road links are being constructed to provide greater access to Afghanistan to Gwadar Port.
Jamali said Pakistan has initiated the process of composite dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues including the core issue of Kashmir. "I believe that this will bring peace and stability to the region."
Referring to the country's important role in global war against terror, the Prime Minister said that for this purpose Pakistan is paying a heavy price.
Referring to the attempts made on the life of President Musharraf, he said: "After 9/11, President Musharraf took very bold decisions and joined the international coalition in the war against terrorism.
Despite constraints, we will continue our efforts to eliminate this menace in order to make the world peaceful and worth living," said the Premier.
Commenting on the internal situation, the Prime Minister said, we have changed the whole complexion of politics by introducing a culture of tolerance and accommodation.
"Contrary to the previous practice, no member of the opposition has been harassed or victimised. Members belonging to the opposition have also been provided with equal funds for undertaking development schemes in their respective constituencies," he added.
The Prime Minister said that the government was endeavouring to consolidate the democratic institutions and promoting a healthy democratic culture both inside and outside the Parliament.
"We give due regard and respect to all elected members of the Parliament", he maintained.
The committee lauded the country's role in global war against terror. It also commended Pakistan's significant contribution for the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and IT Raza Hayat Hiraj and the British High Commissioner to Pakistan were also present on the occasion.
