The National Alliance will formally become part of the (united) Pakistan Muslim League on May 21, with no preconditions.
Alliance leader and Millat Party President Farooq Ahmed Leghari announced this during meeting with PML President Shujaat Husain here at Punjab House on Friday morning.
Both sides exchanged views on the latest political scene and pledged to strengthen PML and democratic institutions, ensuring continuity of the system.
Leghari dispelled the impression, created by some circles, that the Alliance had decided to join the League after some quarters exerted pressure on its leadership. "There was no pressure whatsoever. We made the decision for democracy," he said.
The Alliance leader said that Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi had no objection to the decision to be part of the ruling League, as his son Murtaza Jatoi was present during the meeting.
Leghari reiterated full support to President Pervez Musharraf's policies and asserted to leave no stone unturned to strengthen his hands.
Welcoming Leghari's announcement, Shujaat said that the Alliance was already part of the League after it decided to join hands. However, a formal announcement would be made on May 14. "We will go together to strengthen democracy and add to political stability. We are part of the government and will like to assist it," the PML leader added.
