Federal Minister for Railways Ghous Bux Maher has said that the government is taking steps to modernise railways and increase facilities for its passengers.
The speed of the trains will be increased with building of new railway tracks, he said in an interview.
In this respect, the railways is carrying out three-year rehabilitation programme to ensure safe journey and enhance the speed of trains, he added.
The Minister said that work on the track is underway which will be completed during the next three years.
The Khanewal-Shorekot-Faisalabad section is also being renewed, he added.
He said after completing renewals, the track on Karachi-Faisalabad route will be fit for 120-km per hour speed.
Replying to a question, the Minister said that there is no proposal under consideration to install ticketing machines at Railway station, however, the Railways has computerised its ticketing system at all major railway stations including Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Quetta.
The Minister said that there is no proposal under consideration to install Auto Teller Machines (ATMs) on the Railway Stations, adding ATMs have nothing to do with railways and there are machines used by banks for their customers.
