US Under-secretary of Commerce Kenneth I. Juster on Sunday lauded Pakistan's efforts to streamline and strengthen its export control regime, and welcomed approval of the new export control legislation by the Cabinet.
Under Secretary Juster was talking to Additional Secretary, United Nations and Economic Co-ordination, Tariq Osman Hyder here at the Foreign Office.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the level of co-operation between Pakistan and the United States in diverse fields.
Juster who is paying a two-day visit to Pakistan from Sunday said that the US was gratified with the positive evolution in the bilateral relations and conveyed Washington's appreciation for Pakistan's contribution to the war on terrorism.
The two sides agreed that they would continue their useful dialogue and co-operation in the realm of export controls.
Juster invited Pakistan to attend the US Department of Commerce's Annual Update Conference on dual use export regulations and their implementation, to be held later, this year.
The conference would be followed up by a bilateral meeting on dual use licensing and enforcement issues, with consideration being given to a regular, structured dialogue on this subject.
Tariq Osman Hyder underlined the need to explore co-operation between Pakistan and the United States in the areas of peaceful uses of civilian nuclear technology, dual use technology, and civilian space technology.
Both sides agreed that the issues of industry and security were inter-related and required concerted and sustained bilateral efforts to create a salutary and enabling environment for the growth of international trade.
