Change of Indian government won't affect peace process: Jamali

Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that Kashmir was core issue between India and Pakistan and underlined the need of confidence-building measures (CBMs) by the two countries.
He hoped that the new Indian government would continue the peace process.
Prime Minister Jamali, who called on Pakistan Muslim League (PML) leader Pir Saheb Pagaro at his Pir-Jo-Goth residence, was replying to questions of newsmen.
The Prime Minister said that his government had taken a number of CBMs during past one year to pave way for peace between the two countries.
He said, peace was in the interest of both the countries and added that they should devote their energies and resources for the peace and progress of their people and elimination of poverty and illiteracy.
He said that the change of government in India would not affect the peace process between the two countries.
The Prime Minister said that he had already sent a message to the Congress president Ms. Sonia Gandhi in which he had expressed the hope that the governments of Pakistan and India would carry on the peace process without any hurdle.
On a question about the unification of PML, the Prime Minister said that all the PML factions had been merged into one League and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had been elected its president.
He clarified there was no difference on the party offices, and underlined the need of giving sacrifice for party's unity.
He said that he had come here on the advice of President General Pervez Musharraf to convey to Pir Saheb Pagaro his special gratitude and thanks for what he called "his great role" played for the unification of all PML factions.
He said, he had always respected Pir Saheb Pagaro who was an elderly and seasoned politician of the country. I have been seeking guidance from him, he said and added, if the party wanted to give him some responsibility, he would not refuse it.
He, however, made it clear that all of us should demonstrate the spirit of sacrifice in the interest of party's unity, and should work to make it a strong and viable force to serve the people.
He described his meeting with Pir Saheb Pagaro as very successful and said such contacts will be maintained in future.
Earlier, he was received at Sukkur airport by Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Muhammad Mahar and other senior officials.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Senator former Justice Abdul Razzak Thaheem and Prime Minister's Co-ordinator for Sindh Mir Mansab Ali Khan Jakhrani.
