Syed Munawar Hassan, General Secretary Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan and central leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement of being a terrorist and Bhatta Khor (extortionist) organisation and has demanded its removal from the government.
He has also demanded resignation of Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammed Mahar as he said all the acts of violence are being committed by Governor and Mahar is being made accountable for them.
Addressing news conference at press club here on Sunday he said the situation of country was very bad. The deportation of Shahbaz Sharif and violence on by elections day in Karachi on May 12 have exposed tall claims of government.
He said though they have difference with Shahbaz Sharif but no one has the authority or right to send any Pakistan out of country.
He termed sending back of Shahbaz Sharif as utter violation of constitution. He said if there was any deal between government and Sharifs it was made when constitution was kept in abeyance and that any deal is not above constitution. He also condemned the arrest of hundreds of ARD workers and sending them to jail.
He said on May 12 the MQM terrorists killed 10 innocent citizens in Karachi state terrorism during the polling of by election to three National Assembly and one Sindh Assembly seats. He said up to 4 pm the candidates of MMA were winning but then the MQM unleashed reign of terror and with support of police got results in its favour by committing blood bath in Karachi.
He alleged that Election Commission was equally involved in the rigging. "We do not accept probe by Justice Sadiq Legahri as he has a bad reputation," he said. He said either EC held the election again rejecting the by election results or judges of Supreme Court be nominated to hold inquiry.
He said still in some areas in Karachi like Liaquatabad, Gharibabad and others the MQM terrorists were roaming in the streets and terrorising people who were locked in homes. Others were not allowed to go to their homes, he said.
Syed Munawar Hassan said the worst situation of country was due to amassing the powers in hands of one person General Pervez Musharraf who has made himself as owner of black and white while prime minister Jamali is not seen anywhere.
He said MMA was striving to make parliament supreme along with other political parties. He said until "We remain the ally of America the terrorism from within country will not come to end as USA wants it to continue so that it can get the justification to attack Iran."
MMA leader lamented that in all other provinces the chief executives were chief ministers but in Sindh it was Governor who was involved in many heinous crimes.
He alleged that present Sindh Governor was source of crime and until he remains governor peace will not return. He also alleged that MQM has fixed Bhatta (extortion) money on every trader in all shopping centres and markets as well as on every industrial unit in Karachi and were extracting Bhatta.
He said MMA could get arms and fight MQM but they think that terrorism could not be countered with terrorism. However he warned that their peaceful means could not be taken as weakness.
He opposed idea of sending troops to Iraq and said in that way Pakistan army will be turned to mercenary, which they would condemn.
He asked General Pervez Musharraf to announce that he would shed the uniform before December 13, 2004. Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi MMA district president and Sheikh Shaukat Ali Amir Jamat Islami Hyderabad city accompanied him during press conference.
