China intends to sell which it claims a modern signalling system to Pakistan Railways whose administration is already under unprecedented criticism for purchasing faulty locomotives worth $98.2 million from China, it is learnt. "We are discussing purchase of modern signalling system for railways at Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting to be held on April 4-6 here," said an official. The official said that China has also asked Pakistan to give its share in the cellular phone industry and would take up the issue with the representatives of Ministries of Privatisation and Information Technology in the JMC.
China, the official said, has also informed Pakistan government that two of its companies, Siagols and Quingui motor company, were also facing investment barriers which the Chinese delegation would discuss in the JMC, apart from provision of security to the Chinese personnel working on different projects in Pakistan. The problems in the proposed Jinnah Hydropower project and the much-delayed Thar coal power project would also be part of the discussion.
