City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has opposed the proposal to establish Accident & Emergency Centre and Ancillary Services Complex (AECASC) after razing Services Hospital Karachi and adjacent buildings terming the Sindh government decision as 'wrong move'.
The City nazim was speaking to journalists after performing the groundbreaking ceremony of first Chest Pain Centre of Karachi, located adjacent to city government maternity home in Union Council-1, Model Colony, Malir Town.
The City nazim said that he was not involved in this decision but feared that it would exacerbate the civic problems in the area, including traffic jam etc.
"I will talk to Sindh government on this project and get realised them of the situation," he added.
Earlier, speaking at the function, he said this was the first chest pain centre and nine more such centres would be established to feed Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD), recently inaugurated in Federal B Area, in Gulberg Town.
"We can establish more chest pain centres, if citizens co-operated with City District Government Karachi," he assured.
He said establishment of the KIHD was a remarkable achievement of CDGK, which would greatly serve masses especially low-income sections of society.
"This is first time in the history of Pakistan that 10 chest pain centres will be linked with a cardiac hospital like KIHD," he said.
"Earlier, there was only one cardiac hospital National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi, which was not sufficient to cater a huge population of city," he added.
"About six people die every day on their way to NICVD, now after establishment of such clinics, lives of many patients could be saved by providing first aid in five to 10 minutes.
This first centre would be operational in one month and would work 24 hours. The CDGK is also establishing City Diagnostic Centre, where all investigations will be done on very affordable charges," Khan said.
To queries regarding the water shortage in Malir Town, the City nazim said he would convene a meeting of water board and town officials on June 21 in his office and steps would be taken to solve the issue.
The City nazim said his government had done development work in all areas of city without any discrimination and helped with the CDGK funds where towns were unable to undertake projects.
Senior Presiding Officer City Council Karachi Muslim Pervez, Town Nazim Malir Naveedul Islam, Naib Nazim Town Waseem Mirza, Union Nazim Pervez Ahmed Siddiqui, Qazi Siraj-ul-din, Dr Abdul Haque, Deputy Director KIDH Dr Mohammad Khalid, Munawar Ali Chishti and Abid Tayyab also spoke on the occasion.
