Stephane Dujarric de la Riviere, a Frenchman educated in the United States, was named on Monday as the new chief UN spokesman, replacing veteran spokesman Fred Eckhard, who is retiring at the end of June.
Dujarric, 39, has served as an associate spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan since he joined the United Nations five years ago. Previously he was an assignment editor and field producer for ABC News for nine years.
