First insured mango consignment exported to Paris

For the first time, an insured mango consignment was exported to Paris (France) on Wednesday. The insured mango consignment moved by Ali Internationals through the efforts of Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Board (PHDEB), which persuaded the exporters to get their exportable cargo insured to avoid any unforeseen losses.
Marketing manager PHDEB Tajjamal Hussain Nisar told Business Recorder that this consignment was insured by Habib Insurance Company as part of its scheme, which it introduced recently to compensate the exporters in case of any loss, if incurred during the shipment.
He said that PHDEB after realising the need for such a scheme played an important role to convince the exporters to come forward and get their cargo insured. "As a first step, one exporter got its exportable consignment insured and hopefully others would also follow the suit," he added.
Syed Zahid Ali of Ali International said that insurance of cargo covers a wide range of areas to compensate the exporter in case of losses. These include flight delay, rejection of cargo by the quarantine department at the point of destination, theft and few others.
Commending the scheme, he said that such insurance is very vital for exporters of perishable items, like mango and citrus fruits, as these get spoiled quickly if not delivered quickly.
