The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on August 11, for the lowest income group up to Rs 3000 and combined has registered nominal increase over previous week.
The SPI for week under review in above mentioned groups were recorded at 133.16 and 132.87 respectively as against previous week's 132.97 and 132.76, showing 0.14 percent and 0.08 percent increase, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
During the week under review average prices of 11 items registered decrease while those of 14 items increased with remaining 28 items' prices unchanged.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices included egg (farm), bananas, garlic, sugar, wheat, lawn, voil printed, red chillies (powdered), wheat flour (average quality), vegetable ghee (loose) and potatoes.
The items which registered increase in their prices included LPG (11-kg cylinder), onions, tomatoes, chicken (farm), masoor pulse washed, gur, rice irri-6, mash pulse (washed), firewood, moong pulse washed, mutton, gram pulse (washed), rice basmati broken and milk powdered (Nido).
The items with no change in their average prices included beef, bread, plain (medium sized), milk (fresh), curd, vegetable ghee (tin), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked beef (plate), cooked dal (plate), cigarettes K-2, coarse latha, shirting, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal sponge (Bata) kerosene, elec. bulb (60-watts), match box, washing soap (nylon), bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, electric charges 1-100, petrol, diesel and telephone charges.
