Local social circles and educationists have appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to take immediate step for holding probe into the poor results of MA English and Economics announced by the Punjab University.
In a press statement issues here on Tuesday, they demanded that the results, announced by the university, should be declared null and void and remarking of the papers should be ordered.
They urged the President and the Prime Minister to intervene for resolving the demand amicably because the future of the students was at stake. They also demanded that independent inquiry should be arranged for ascertaining the criteria of marking the papers and to whom the university engaged for the marking of papers. Meanwhile, the political circles said the Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab University and Provincial Education Minister should voluntarily resign in larger national interests.
They said that due to the double standard of the Punjab University, the student community, studying outside the university, was suffering adversely. "It is a vivid fact that the university students are being treated as a special "creature," while the students, studying in colleges, are being treated as subordinates," they said.
The result percentage of MA English and Economics, announced by the university, had not only reflected its efficiency, but also exposed the so-called standard of education, they said.
The political circles also demanded that uniform system should be adopted for removing the discrimination and all the students should be treated equal. At present, students of MA economics, studying in the university, were granted the degree of MS.c, while appeared from colleges were treated simply MA. It is worth mentioning that the students, studying in the university, are enjoying the privilege of semester system, while the outsiders are appearing in the examination annually.
The political circles said that this issue would be raised in the Senate, National Assembly and the Punjab Assembly, demanding unearthing the hidden hands responsible for creating discrimination in the education system.
