Port Qasim handled a record cargo volume of 2.3 million tonnes inclusive of containerised cargo during March, it was officially learnt here on Friday.
The big jump in cargo handling has been achieved by adhering to the new policy guidelines given by the new Port Qasim Authority (PQA) Chairman, Vice-Admiral Asad Qureshi.
It aims at reducing cost of doing business, besides provision of time efficient and cost effective port services, customer-friendly approach and close liaison with port clientele.
The policy has started yielding results, and slowly but surely, things have started moving in the right direction. The PQA currently handles more than 40 percent cargo handling (import/export) requirements of the country.
