Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Monday that the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) would provide an opportunity to promote trade and investment among the Muslim countries.
He was talking to Mirzan Mahatir, President of the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute (Asli) here at the PM Secretariat. The Prime Minister referred to the second meeting of the World Islamic Economic Forum to be held in Islamabad in November and said that it will provide the perfect setting for encouraging interaction of leading economies of the world with the Islamic countries.
The theme of the forum is "Unleashing the potential of emerging markets." It will have separate sessions on infrastructure development competitiveness and the challenges for Islamic countries in a globalised world. The forum will be addressed by President General Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister of Malaysia amongst several other world leaders.
The first meeting of the WIEF organised by the Asian Strategic Institute was held in Kuala Lumpur last year, the concluding session of which was addressed by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
The forum in Islamabad is expected to be attended by 400 leading businesspersons and investors. It is being organised jointly by Asli and the government of Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said WIEF's meeting in Islamabad was an honour for Pakistan and said it will provide major investors and leading businesspersons to get first-hand information about unlimited investment opportunities in Pakistan.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Economic Affairs Division (EAD), Ms Hina Rabbani Khar and Secretary EAD.
