At least 26 people, including two minor children and three women died and 145 fainted as the temperature in Southern Punjab rose to 45 degree Celsius on Monday and frequent power load shedding added to miseries of the people, reports reaching here throughout the province said.
People staged protest demonstrations in different towns and cities of Southern Punjab as 6 to 12-hour load shedding HAS forced them to come out in the streets.
Mepco authorities have failed to restore the electricity in Nawabpur in spite of elapsing four days and refrigerators, fans and other electronic things burnt due to power fluctuations. Similar situation is witnessed in different areas, where residents are facing problems.
EDO Health Dr Abdul Hameed Chughtai confirmed to reporters in Multan that at least 22 persons died of heat-stroke and suffocation in Chichawatni, Chiniot, Multan, Chishtian, Kasur, Pattoki, Rahimyar Khan, Renala Khurd Hafizabad and Jalalpur Pirwala during the last 24 hours. However, no patient died of gastro-enteritis during the last three days, he added.
