Italian highway regulator ANAS is taking toll-road operator Autostrade to court over 2 billion euros ($2.66 billion) of work it says was not carried out, a move that may jeopardise the company's take-over by Spain's Abertis.
Late on Friday night in Rome, ANAS requested that a court ascertain whether Autostrade carried out all the investments it had agreed to make as part of its highway-management concession.
ANAS requested the court, if it finds the investments were not made, to oblige the company to carry out the work and compensate ANAS for damages. The court may also decide whether the concession's terms should be reviewed.
