Women Protection Act (WPA) is according to the Islamic spirit and only few disgruntled politicians are trying to make it a disputed legislation for their own vested political interests. Muhammad Wasi Zafar, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights said this while addressing Union Council (UC) Nazims belonging to Jatranwala here on Sunday.
He said the draft of WPA was finalized in consultation with seasoned scholars of Islamic Ideological Council (IIC) and after extensive discussion to do away with the injustices being meted out to female population of the country.
He said that majority of Ulema was fully supportive of government efforts on this issue and were ready to cooperate in the passage of another legislation to eliminate other un-Islamic customs like 'vini' etc.
The minister said the WPA has improved the Pakistan's image in the international community in addition to saving women from prevalent social injustices.
He categorically announced that no amendment would be allowed in WPA and it would be enforced throughout Pakistan.
He paid best tributes to the vision of President General Pervez Musharraf and leadership of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and said that they had put Pakistan on road to progress and prosperity.
He said that record mega projects had been launched in all the four provinces. "These projects would not only boost national economy but also strengthen the federation", he added. He said that work on new water reservoirs was in progress and hoped these would pave way for a new and progressive green revolution.
About Jaranwala, he said that possession of 103 Kanal of Railway land had been acquired and construction of Judicial Complex on it would be started very soon. "Similarly, work on water and sewerage project was also in full swing," he said and added that the government was spending a huge amount of Rs 200 million on it.
