The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has said the challenges faced by the judiciary were equally important for the bar and the bench and asked the bar members to come ahead to dispense justice to the poor people of the country.
While addressing the members of Punjab Bar Council here on Saturday, he said corruption in lower judiciary is the biggest problem of today for the judiciary and added that the bar members could support the higher judiciary by pinpointing such elements. He added no one could escape the lawful action for misdeeds.
The Chief Justice said suo motu cases could not be disposed of in favour of the poor people until the lawyers and other concerned officials are not aware of the its implementation.
He said courts have to pass the orders while the bar members and the concerned officials have to get them implemented. "The system of administration of justice is facing challenges of the biggest magnitude, hence, we need to dedicate and rededicate our energies to find their proper solution."
He said the bench and the bar are inseparable, and are incomplete without each other. The hallmark of the two sides is their independence. They have to be independent of every other thing, but not of each other. He said legal and the judicial professions both are highly demanding and all those who may aspire to join these professions must bear this in mind.
He said: "our journey would be easier if we follow the motto of the Quaid and once we do this then nothing stops us from achieving the aims and objects for which Pakistan was created. He further said his office received hundreds of applications from different strata of the society and one just shivers and one is just tempted, rather constrained to act and react. Once cannot be a silent spectator to all that is going on. "We have to rescue the common man, the poor and the destitute."
