The city's College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan Regional Centre held two five-day workshops on "medical research and methodology and basic surgical skills training" for the post-graduate residents.
More than 50 doctors from different medical colleges throughout the Punjab attended these workshops. Drs Naghma-e-Rehan and Rakhshanda Farid helped the participants understand the research methodology and thesis writing. The workshops also discussed a strategy to raise the standard of research to compete with international level.
Professor Ghulam Mustafa Arain and Dr Waris Farooqa discussed the basic principles of operative surgery and theatre protocol. They helped them to learn and practise the basic surgical skills, including laparoscopic surgery on trainer dummies and endo trainers.
The Regional Director of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan Lahore Centre, Professor Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, stressed the need to provide facilities to medical research trainees.
Punjab Health Department Additional Secretary Dr Suhail Saqlain spoke about the importance of medical research and stressed the need for international standard of medical research. He also lauded the services and efforts of the President CPSP Professor Zafarullah Chaudhry. He assured full co-operation of the Punjab government in medical research.
