Sindh Chief Secretary Aijaz Ahmed Qureshi on Saturday issued directive for taking all possible steps for helping the rain and flood-affected people. After having a briefing from Relief Commissioner Sindh Syed Anwar Haider, the Chief Secretary paid a visit to rainaffected areas of Karachi and flood-hit areas of Dadu and Qambar.
Qureshi, on arrival in Dadu by helicopter on Saturday, was informed in a briefing by DCO Dadu that some 138,514 affected people were being provided ration bags containing flour, rice, pulses, ghee, sugar, milk and other essential items besides provision of medical facilities.
He said in the three Talukas of Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi, some 15,588 displaced persons were being lodged at 32 relief camps including 12 in Mehar with 8,620 inmates, K.N. Shah 10 with 3,758 affectees and 10 in Johi with 3,210 people. Besides, six medical camps are functioning in Mehar, six in K.N. Shah and three in Johi.
Aijaz Qureshi visited the affected areas, met the people, inquired about their welfare, listened to their problems and issued on the spot order for solution.
Earlier, DCO Dadu was directed to further promote liaison with Meteorological, Irrigation, Home, Electricity and other concerned departments so that timely protective measures could be taken during any emergency.
From Dadu, the Chief Secretary, along with senior member Board of Revenue, flew to Shahdadkot and visited Taluka Qabbo Saeed Khan, Warah, Nasirabad and other areas alongwith Secretary Irrigation and DCO. He was informed that in Qambar, 1,226 villages were affected and 73 relief camps set up, where 14,102 affected people have been provided shelter with provision of essential commodities and medical aid.
It was informed that 3,420 tents, 1,060 blankets and 2,000 water coolers had also been provided to affectees. The Chief Secretary directed the Irrigation Department authorities to remain vigilant for protection and care of embankments.
The Relief Commissioner was directed to carry on relief works in a co-ordinated manner. Aijaz Qureshi appreciated the relief efforts of field officers and other staff.
