The 13th session of 5-day sector specific training workshop on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of transmission lines and grid stations for Govt officials and professionals from the private sector concluded.
The training workshop was arranged by NWFP Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in collaboration with Pakistan academy for rural development, said a press release issued here on Sunday. The five-day training included lectures, group discussion and field visit by the organisers.
Through this training, staff of Peshawar Electric Supply Company Limited (Pesco), Monitoring Cell Civil Secretariat Fata, Planning and Development Department, government of Pakistan Planning Commission, Planning and development Division, District Co-ordination Office, Executive District Officer S&L and NGOs were provided the opportunity to learn about the legal requirements of EIA regarding Transmission Lines and Grid Stations.
Dr Mohammad Bashir Khan, Director General, EPA-NWFP, Dr Arbab Naeem, Professor University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Muzafar Ahmad Khan, SDO, Wapda House, Javed Iqbal Faculty Member Pard, Iftikhar Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental sciences, Peshawar, Muhammad Nafees lecturer Department of Environmental sciences, Peshawar, Zafar Jamal, Instructor Pard, G.S Tunio Instructor Pard, Dr Amjad Ali Khan, Deputy Director (EIA), EPA-NWFP delivered lectures on the legal and critical need and the procedural methodology of Environmental Impact Assessment.
Moreover the focus was also given on transmission lines and grid stations. During the course the participants were taken to the 500 kV, Peshawar grid station and they visited the control room and grid station.
Director General Pard, Brigadier Akbar Saeed Awan (Retd) was the chief guest at the concluding session of the 5-day training workshop. In his brief speech, Director General Pard explained the background of training and hoped that the training given to the participants during the five-day course would help them in evolving understanding about EIA regulations and overall preservation of environment.
He stated that environment means preservation of ecology and optimum utilisation of the natural resources. He amended that lack of awareness about natural resource management is causing environmental degradation in the country. He stressed that the knowledge gained by the government officials and private organisations should be utilised in their respective working environment.
He further said that without active participation of all the stakeholders the government could not implement projects for the betterment of environment and preservation of natural resources. Later, Director General Pard distributed certificates among the participants of the workshop.
