Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has said that the banned sectarian outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) was regrouping in Karachi, adding al Qaeda has been using LJ, Sipah-e-Sahaba and Tehreek-e-Taliban for carrying out terrorist activities in Pakistan, Aaj TV reported.
He said this during a meeting to review law and order in Karachi and Sindh, which was presided over by President Zardari at Governor House Karachi. PM's Advisor on Interior Affairs said the banned LJ has found its way into Karachi. He feared that they could carry out any attack in Karachi, saying "we need to discourage them and increase the vigil."
He said there were 17,000 madaris (seminaries) in the country and 3000 of them were in Karachi . We will regularise madaris in consultation with Ulema of all schools of thoughts to avoid heart burning. Malik said 50 new armoured personnel carriers (APCs) will be delivered by China in next two months while bullet-proof jackets will be handed over to police around middle of next month.
Rehman Malik pointed out that orders for modern fixed and mobile scanners have also been placed for improving security in the city, the TV channel reported. Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul- Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Law Minister Farooq H. Naek, Prime Minister's Advisor on Finance Shaukat Tareen, PM's Advisor on Petroleum Dr Asim Husain, Chairman Planning Commission Salman Farooqui, provincial ministers, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal and senior officials were present on the occasion.
