Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have demanded immediate resignation of Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar after what they said 'shameful' disclosure that his daughter's grade was improved from C to B in a gross violation of Supreme Court's judgement.
"Chief Justice is custodian of rule of law in any country and what more can come to any society in shame if the person gets involved in violation of decisions of the Supreme Court and breaking laws for personal family gains," PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said in a statement here on Tuesday.
This disclosure has further highlighted the significance of the movement for restoration of pre-November 3 judiciary minus the PCO judges to have an independent judiciary in the country, he said.
"If this disclosure had come out in any democratic country, the accused would have immediately resigned. What is more intriguing that the government is silent on this issue," he maintained. "It is pity to see that all this is happening not under General Musharraf but when PPP is in power, which signed Charter of Democracy and Murree declaration," he added.
PTI chairman Imran Khan expressed grief that awarding extra marks to the daughter of Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar is an open violation of rules and said it was suitable case to be immediately referred to the supreme judicial council.
While sending the case against deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to supreme judicial council was that his son got extended privileges against the rules and regulations and despite this flimsy claim Iftikhar Chaudhry had to pass very cumbersome trial.
However, Khan said now the present incident of extending undue favour of awarding extra marks in examination to the daughter of Justice Dogar has surfaced with documentary evidence which can not be neglected.
He said it was crystal clear that his daughter has been given extra marks against the prevalent marking scheme and accepted practices increasing her grade from grade-C to grade-B making her eligible for admission to any medical college. This act has offended the daughter of sitting CJP and under preference over at least hundred thousand other sons and daughters of Pakistan.
PTI chairman pointed out that in this whole action three different judgements of the Supreme Court of Pakistan itself were neglected and violated to benefit the daughter of a person who is occupying the highest seat of the Supreme Court.
