Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) on Thursday launched the third volume of "Gateway to Giving", a directory of certified non-profit organisations aimed at bridging the information and credibility gap between grant makers and grant seekers to help professionalize grant-making by strengthening the civil society.
Addressing on this occasion, Executive Director of PCP, Anjum R. Haque said the issue for the government is to provide an enabling environment to further promote citizen-led growth, where more contributions can be channelled towards non-traditional areas such as community development works, human development endeavours, medical research facilities, hospitals and institutions of general and special education.
She said that this directory is a significant as information it contains is valuable. We expect our directories to become a leading source for people looking to channel efforts and contributions towards effectively so that impact on society is maximised. Such information has never been publicly available under one title before", Ms Anjum added.
"Gateway to giving is the best example of PCP leading towards inspiring stories of success and social service in diverse geographical and thematic areas across the country. The directory is a reflection of PCP's unique Certification Programme, the first of its kind to be implemented in South Asia" she said, adding that the standard setting certification programme provides a system of voluntary evaluation of CSOs on standardised parameters by an external agency aimed at promoting international best practices of good governance, financial transparency, documentation, disclosure, accountability and organisational effectiveness.
Manager Certification said on this occasion that PCP is a non-governmental support organisation, led by a board of governors comprising eminent citizens, civil society and corporate leaders working to expand the knowledge base of philanthropy and facilitate organised giving. Later, he made a presentation on the process of certification and the benefits that certification brings to civil society organisations and how these organisations become transparent, credible and accountable.
