The exports of fish and meat increased by 10.62 percent and 16 percent during the 10 months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period of last year. Exports of fish and fish preparations during July-April (2011-12) were recorded at US $259.342 million against US $234.448 million during July-April (2010-11), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The seafood exports, however, witnessed decrease in terms of quantity by from 103,800 metric tons last year to 101,601 metric tons this year. On the other hand, the exports of meat and meat preparations during the period under review were recorded at US $141.616 million against US $122.036 million during last year, showing an increase of 16.04 percent.
In terms of quantity, the meat exports increased by 6.75 percent from 42,385 metric tons to 45,246 metric tons, the data revealed. However, the exports of overall food group witnessed negative growth of 2.44 percent during the period under review. The food group exports stood at US $3.509 billion against the exports of US $3.597 billion, the PBS data revealed.
