A bar member has approached the Lahore High Court seeking allocation of funds for the Thar Coal project in the next budget. The petitioner, Maqsood Gujjat stated that the country was facing energy crisis, which has badly affected the economic activities. He stated that the Thar Coal project was initiated to deal with the energy crisis and the project team has successfully experimented gasification from the coal well.
He stated that the government was not providing funds for the project and it could be closed for lack of funds. He therefore prayed to the court to issue directions to reserve funds of Rs 5 billion for the project in the next budget.
