Policeman ASI Khalid was allegedly beaten up by some lawyers in the Lahore High Court premises. The victim came to the High Court from Gujranwala and appeared before the court of Justice Anwarul Haq in connection with a habeas corpus petition. Advocates Rafique and Shahid Iqbal accompanied by dozens of other lawyers allegedly attacked Khalid, kicked and punched him and tore his uniform.
The lawyers were reportedly annoyed by the statement of ASI he gave in the court. Security personnel rescue the policeman by getting hold on the aggressive lawyers. The incident was brought to the notice of Justice Anwarul Haq, who summoned LHCBA representatives. Bar's President Shehram Sarwar appeared before the judge and condemned the incident. He said such elements would not be tolerated in the Bar and action would be taken against them. The lawyers and the cop however submitted applications at Old Anarkali police station for registration of cases against each other.
