Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) did not come to power though backdoor, adding that it was the first democratically-elected government, which completed over four years. "The PPP-led government has come to power with the help of masses and will continue as long as it enjoys people's support," he said while addressing ground breaking ceremony of three projects of Capital Development Authority (CDA).
He said that the incumbent government would be the first democratic regime, which would present its fifth budget and would ensure smooth transition of power. "The current government has completed different development projects worth Rs 1.5 trillion. After completion of five years, PPP will go to the masses on the basis of its performance and now its up to people to decide," he said.
The Prime Minister said that the main agenda of his government was to serve the masses. He said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan there were no political prisoner in the country. Gilani announced that the current government would convert Prime Minister House into a state of the art institution. He said that he had issued directives to Finance Minister six months ago to prepare a comprehensive plan in this regard.
He directed chairman CDA to launch different scheme for the betterment of poor people and development of slum areas. He asked CDA to provide transport and housing facilities to public.
Prime Minister said that the current government would allocate funds in the upcoming budget for launching of development projects in rural areas of Islamabad. He directed CDA to prepare proposal for the construction of a girls' college and a hospital. Chairman CDA Farkhand Iqbal while speaking on the occasion said that CDA had completed development of F-9 park Art and Craft Village and Diagnostic Unit in capital hospital before the stipulated time. "
The new projects including Expansion of Kashmir Highway will be complete in 2013, construction of Margall avenue will be completed in one year and construction of 11th avenue worth Rs 1045 million will be completed in nine months. Co-ordinator to Prime Minister Faisal Sakhi Butt, Deputy Chairman Senate Sabir Baloch and advisor to Prime Minister Mustafa Khokhar were also present on the occasion.
