ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday held Prime Minister Imran Khan responsible for the 'Karachi incident', saying that the institutions, including the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Rangers report to the premier, and "no one else, but the prime minister can give such orders".

Speaking at a news conference along with party secretary general Ahsan Iqbal, former prime minister and senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi described the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Capt Safdar (retd) and 'abduction' of Inspector General of Sindh police as extra-ordinary and a serious violation of the Constitution.

Calling it an 'extra-ordinary' matter, Abbasi maintained that the Constitution had been violated by challenging the authority of the Sindh govt and 'kidnapping' the top police officer of the province.

He also accused the premier of breaching his oath, saying: "Please read the oath you took when you assumed the office. Not only you broke your own oath, but also directed other officials to break their oaths."

Abbasi hoped that his party believes in the judiciary, which even took suo motu notice of the transfers of officers in the past, should have taken notice of this incident too.

He said the PML-N also expected the Senate, being a symbol of the federation, to take notice of the incident, adding that a special committee of the Upper House should have been constituted to probe into the incident.

Responding to a question about the telephonic conversations between PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa's on the incident, he said two federal institutions were involved in the incident and when he felt that the prime minister has kept a complete quiet over the incident, the PPP chairman was left with no option but to demand investigation from the army chief.

While speaking, Ahsan Iqbal alleged that the government had issued a 'super NRO' for the arrested Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav by passing a bill from the standing committee on law and justice for granting the right of review against the sentence announced by the military court.

He said Pakistan already had the law and in many cases those who were sentenced by the military courts in the past had approached the judiciary for the review.
