President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday directed to expedite work on implementation of Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme (BESOS), and expanding the programme to other State Owned Entities (SOEs).
He was chairing a meeting on BESOS here at Bilawal House, which was attended among others by federal minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, M Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to the President, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Finance Secretary Abdul Wajid Rana, Amjad Ali Khan, Secretary Privatisation and other senior officials.
The President said that BESOS was a major achievement of the government which would inculcate a sense of ownership among the employees of the state corporations.
He said that by distributing 12 percent GoP shares free of cost among the eligible workers in 80 SOEs, the government had made the workers important stakeholders, who would now have a considerable say in the management of the organisations.
The President said that BESOS scheme was launched in line with the vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to empower the workers and wage earners.
The President reiterated that the government was committed to making the labour a partner in the development process with rights and responsibility in overall national development and production.
Secretary Privatisation Amjad Ali Khan gave a detailed presentation on the progress made in implementation of the scheme and latest developments in BESOS.-PR
