Ameer, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan, has expressed grave concern over the prevailing situation in Egypt and said that an ambush on the public mandate only a year ago would again plunge the great African country into the mire of dictatorship and corruption.
He said here on Tuesday that President Morsi was the first elected President of in the Egyptian history who had put the country on the path of progress and stability. However, the colonial powers and the remnants of Hosni Mobarak could not digest the independence, stability and sovereign policies of Egypt in view of its key position in the Middle East.
Syed Munawar Hassan said that during Morsi's one year rule, he had not only given an independent democratic constitution to his country but also closed the door of corruption. Morsi's government had initiated several long term and comprehensive projects for the country's development, restored the country's lost image in the world community, and also shattered the siege of the Palestinians that had been continuing for several years.
Syed Munawar Hassan said that if the opposition in Egypt did not show respect to democratic process, the Al Ikhwan's policy of peace and rejected the repeated offers for talks from President Morsi, it would soon find itself a big looser, and the country would once again fall in the hand of some adventurer or dictatorship. He said, if the opposition really enjoyed public support, it should ensure the National Assembly elections already by President Morsi and bring about a change through ballot. The JI Ameer paid tributes to the Egyptian masses and also appealed them to remain united and peaceful and foil the conspiracies being hatched by the foreign powers and the unscrupulous opposition leaders.
