ISTANBUL: The Turkish lira firmed on Friday after the central bank said the lira would be one of the most appreciating currencies in 2012, and it will ensure lira appreciation via its wide range of instruments if the lira fails to appreciate on its own.
The lira firmed to 1.8742 against dollar from 1.8770 after the remarks by Central Bank Governor Erdem Basci.
The main Istanbul share index traded 0.09 percent lower 51,158 points, outperforming the MSCI emerging markets index, which traded 0.57 percent lower.
