Chinese scholars and members of think-tanks are attaching high importance to President Xi Jinping's forthcoming visit to Pakistan and believe the visit will be another milestone in the development of their bilateral ties, particularly addressing common challenges in socio-economic fields.
The visit, taking place in the middle of this month, will pave the way of fulfilling Chinese commitment to help Pakistan in overcoming its economic problems and the energy crisis, said Lan Jianxue and Li Qingyan, senior members of China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) while talking with a group of visiting Pakistani journalists. CIIS is an attached department of the Chinese foreign ministry.
China wishes to maintain the momentum of its deep-rooted and ever-green relationship with Pakistan, they said adding: "No pressure or influence from anywhere could stop China to fulfil its commitment towards Pakistan." Chinese government, they said, is taking all possible steps to expedite work on Gowadar Port and Pak-China economic corridor project.
Lan Jianxue said Pakistan is a top priority for China and there has been consistency in the Chinese foreign policy from generation to generation, making their bilateral ties exemplary one. The two countries will continue to work together to further strengthen the bonds of their strategic partnership in all areas of common interest.
While expressing China's serious concern over terrorist activities in the region, he said Pakistan is on the forefront in the efforts of getting rid of this menace. He said the global community should assist Pakistan, through intelligence sharing and technology to wipe out terrorism and extremism.
Pakistan has paid huge sacrifices in war on terror, showing its strong commitment to peace and stability in the region, which must be recognised by the world community, he added. Lan Jianxue said there is complete consensus among the Chinese scholars over the need of providing all possible support to Pakistan for its stability and economic well-being. A strong and prosperous Pakistan is in the interest of China, he added.
