Sugarcane growers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa demanded of the government to fix sugarcane price at Rs 350 per 40 kg, and warned they would start protest in case of further delay in fixing the price. The demand was made during a meeting held at Daudzai, wherein a large number of sugarcane growers participated. The meeting expressed grave concern over unnecessary delay in fixing sugarcane price and inability of the provincial irrigation department for smooth supply of water and inaccessibility to soft loans facility from the commercial banks.
The growers warned to stop cultivating the crop from the next year in protest against the government apathy. They demanded of the government to fix sugarcane price at Rs 350 per 40 kilogram.
