The Sindh Assembly session on Tuesday was adjourned after proceedings for less than one minute due to what the Speaker ruled 'lack' of quorum but the Muttaheda Qaumi Movement (MQM) termed the adjournment as 'violation' of rules. Speaker Aga Siraj Khan Durrani criticised the legislators for their 'disinterest' in attending the Sindh Assembly. He did not allow a session for prayers and stepped out immediately after adjournment of the house till next Monday.
Speaking to newsmen, MQM's Syed Sardar Ahmed said that the treasury again escaped a key session which was to discuss public problems. "The government does not want to discuss public issues in the house," he added. He said that it was the government's responsibility to maintain the required quorum but the treasury had just focused on completing 100 sittings in a year and was indifferent to the problems being faced by people.
Sardar Ahmed said that the MQM members wanted to bring in a resolution in the house to denounce PTI Chairman Imran Khan for his tirade against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain but the move was blocked. Sindh Senior Education Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro dismissed the opposition's criticism, saying that the lawmakers should enter the house on time to thwart such moves and help the proceedings last longer.
"When the session was adjourned only I and Dr Sikandar Mandhro were sitting while the entire house was presenting an empty look which angered the Speaker," he said, adding that the Speaker had attended the house on time and termed criticism against him as 'irrational'. He said that the court would decide on the joint investigation into May 12, 2007 incident. He further said that the PTI and MQM tussle might hit democracy.
