Sindh Energy Minister seeks Federal govt approval for energy projects

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to give permission to several projects of Sindh pending with the Federal Government for generating energy so that power crisis in the country can be better resolved.

Addressing a press conference in his office on Thursday, the Minister said there were several corridors for alternative energy in Sindh which could provide cheap power, but due support from the Centre was needed for timely execution of these projects.

Sindh has big potential to generate solar and wind energy besides huge gas and coal reserves for generating power. Around 4000 mega watts energy could be produced through solar and coal reserves.

He claimed that Sindh province has 99 percent of coal reserves of the country and 38 percent of local oil production.

He informed the media that with help of the World Bank, Sindh Government was providing solar energy to schools and hospitals in the province, which was far cheaper than that of K-electric tariff.
