Divisional Commissioner Momin Agha directed for putting the departmental services on high alert in Faisalabad division to cope with any emergency situation due to torrential rains and flood in rivers during monsoon season.
He was presiding over a meeting to review the flood fighting plan of the four districts of the division. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad, Jhang and Chiniot Salman Ghani, Mudassar Riaz, Ayub Khan, ADC Toba Tek Singh Ch Abdul Ghafoor, MD WASA Ch Faqir Muhammad, ACG Mahar Shafqatullah Mushtaq and other officers.
The Commissioner directed for making every possible safety and preventive measures for the protection of people's life and property keeping in view the heavy rains. He stressed upon keeping vigilant eye on weather forecast and said that early warning system should be kept active for ensuring safety of the people in case of danger of floods. He said that the danger of flood was possible in River Jehlum and Chenab flowing near district Jhang and Chiniot. He emphasized upon regular inspections of vulnerable points and said that the encroachments should immediately be removed from the river areas besides strengthening the flood protection bunds.
He said that WASA, Municipal Corporation and Committees should take all necessary steps for ensuring the relevant machinery functional and alertness of man powers for immediate removal of rain water from the low lying areas. He directed the departments concerned to provide certificates to those that boats, dewatering sets, generators, bulldozes, cranes and other machinery were available with them in functional condition. The Commissioner also advised for proper and comprehensive planning to set up relief camps at educational institutions and other suitable places for the help of flood hit-people.
He maintained that close coordination among the concerned departments should be ensured and relief activities should be initiated within least possible time in case of any emergency situation. During the meeting Deputy Commissioners briefed about the flood fighting plan of their district concerned and told about the preparedness to tackle the flood situation.
