Pakistan, India's relationship ‘critical’ for cricket: ICC chief
The International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Dave Richardson has said that Pakistan and India's relations are ‘critical’ for cricket, as the two sides prepare for their clash in the ICC World Cup 2019.
"The India-Pakistan relationship is so critical for cricket," said David Richardson, the chief executive of the ICC, quoted CNN. "It is one of the iconic clashes." The World Cup would see its biggest match, as arch rivals India, Pakistan collide on Sunday at the Old Trafford.
Pakistan has never beaten India in the World Cup, however, their surprise victory against the neighboring rival at the finals of 2017 Champions Trophy in UK has led many to believe that the shackles could finally be broken.
"The fact that India and Pakistan can play each other in ICC events is a tremendous tool to make sure that things don't get out of hand and that relationships are kept on an even keel," said Richardson. "When you see a match played as we will at Old Trafford, you see the fans sitting together -- touch wood -- without any friction and enjoying the game."
Pakistan are scheduled to meet archrivals India in the most anticipated game of ICC World Cup 2019 on Sunday at Old Trafford.
