Another defeat for Pakistan against India as World Cup jinx continues

Pakistan were unable to break their winless World Cup jinx against India, as the Men in Green lost to archrivals by 89 runs in the ICC World Cup 2019 biggest match on Sunday at Manchester’s Old Trafford.

This was Pakistan seventh consecutive defeat at the hands of India in the World Cup tournament.

After intermittent rain, Pakistan needed 136 runs to in five overs, as the DLS method got the second innings reduced to 40 overs with a revised target of 302.

India's batting all rounder Vijay Shankar claimed the first wicket for India, getting Imam ul Haq lbw on 7.

Kuldeep Yadav bamboozled Babar Azam, after he bowled Pakistan's premier batsman on 48, finally ending the 104 runs second wicket stand. The spinner striked again, removing Fakhar Zaman for 62.

Mohammad Hafeez perished to Hardik Pandya, after the batsman clipped straight into the hands of Vijay Shankar on 9. Pandys dismissed Shoaib Malik the very next ball, after Pakistan's most experienced campaigner got bowled on naught.

Shankar picked his second wicket, sending skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed back to the pavilion on 12.

Earlier, India posted 336 runs at the loss of five wickets in their 50-overs, with Rohit Sharma hitting an aggressive 140 runs.

Pakistan bowling spearhead Mohammad Amir picked his first scalp, after Hardik Pandya got caught by Babar Azam at long on on 26. Amir striked again after Indian batting maestro MS Dhoni got caught behind on 1. Amir picked his third with the all important wicket of Virat Kohli, who got caught behind by Sarfaraz Ahmed on 77.

Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to hit 11,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODI).

Rohit Sharma hit a hundred off just 85 balls in a big game against Pakistan, this was Sharma’s back to back century against the arch rivals. The opening batsman got dismissed after a brilliant 140, after he got caught by Wahab Riaz off Hasan Ali's delivery.

Wahab Riaz picked the first wicket for Pakistan, after KL Rahul got caught by Babar Azam after a knock of 57.

Indian openers shared a 136 runs opening stand, taking India to triple figures in the 18th over of their innings.

Pakistan opted to field first against arch rivals India in the ICC World Cup 2019 blockbuster match.

Pakistan is playing two spinners Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan against India. India picks Vijay Shankar in place of the injured opening batsman, Shikhar Dhawan.

“It is raining so conditions are good for bowling. We have quality spinners and we have backed them today. We are not thinking about 6-0,” said Sarfaraz at toss.

"We would have bowled first to be honest," said Kohli. "Wicket looks really nice though and we have two wrist spinners in our team."

The Men in Green had never beaten their arch rivals in the tournament, however, with only one win in their four matches of the tournament every game for Sarfaraz’s side is a must win as they lock horns with Virat Kohli’s men, that are yet to lose a game in the tournament.
