A senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Abu Hassan Ansari on Monday called it a day after developing differences with former secretary general Jahangir Khan Tareen over the party's constitution. The sources within PTI told Business Recorder that Ansari, central additional secretary general, resigned as he failed to convince Tareen over issues pertaining to the constitution of the party.
Hassan, who is the author of PTI party constitution 2019, was being forced by Tareen, according to sources, to amend the constitution as per his recommendations. The two also had multiple verbal spats during party meetings, they added. They said that Ansari believes that Tareen has taken over the party again, as he is considered to be quite close to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Ansari could not be reached for comments but sources close to him quoted him as saying that JKT might have spent his money on the party but there are others like him who have given the party their time.
Ansari submitted his resignation to PTI Chief Organizer Saifullah Niazi.
The sources said that no decision has yet been taken on the resignation as Prime Minister Khan has told the party's top brass that he would personally look into the matter after his return from China.
"In view of the controversy created in the party leadership in the wake of Constitution Review Committee meeting, I feel it appropriate to tender my resignation from the post of Additional Secretary General to pave the way for somebody more suitable for the changing environment," read the resignation letter. "I would like to thank you and all the colleagues in the central governing body for the utmost respect and cooperation," read the letter. When contacted, Tareen did not respond to the telephone calls till filing of this report.
