331 graduates awarded degrees at KMDC convocation

Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) conferred degrees on as many as 245 MBBS and 86 BDS students in its 7th Convocation here on Thursday.

The event was chaired by the Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi opened the convocation as the chairperson convocation committee Dr Nargis Anjum administered oath to degree holders.

Deputy Mayor Arshad Hasan, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, Principal KMDC Prof Dr Mehmood Haider, Senior Deputy Convener MQM Amir Khan, parliamentary leader Kanwar Naveed Jamil, MNA Kishwar Zehra, members of the MQM Rabita Committee, chairmen and chairperson of KMC council, MNAs, MPAs and City Council members, faculty members and students were also present on this occasion.

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar along with Principal KMDC Prof Dr Mehmood Haider gave away degrees to the students.

Speaking on this occasion Mayor praised the performance of the college. He said that the professional and post graduate performance of the students and the standard of education in KMDC was better than any other medical institution in the country.

He said that this being an important milestone in the career of these medical students as they were stepping into the practical life after completing their education.

He said that the doctors must prepare themselves for the leadership role also in accordance to the requirements of World Health Organisation and the country.

Professor Khalid Iraqi said the youth should be prepared to take on new challenges. Latest research should be taken into consideration.

Principal KMDC Prof Dr Mehmood Haider said that a total of 23 MBBS and 22 BDS batches have completed their education since the time the college was established. The college offers 200 MBBS and 100 BDS seats to candidates every year.
