EU leaders welcome Pak-India peace process

A delegation of European Union leaders has welcomed the joint statement of Pakistan and India signalling further moves towards peace process and hoped that this would prove sustainable.
Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday evening, Foreign Minister of Ireland Brian Cowen, who is the current President of European Union, said they had been informed of the progress on the peace moves by Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri and had also heard about the joint statement issued by Foreign Secretaries of Pakistan and India.
"We hope that the two countries will take steps to make this process sustainable and irreversible," he said, and then went on to commend Pakistan's commitment to fight terrorism "in all forms".
Brian Cowen also recalled President Musharraf's "assurance that he will not let Pakistani territory to be used for terrorism".
Besides measures for counter-terrorism, the EU President said, they had also discussed issues of concern to "both of us including the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction".
