In order to gain maximum benefits from WTO, there is a need to impart training to the garment industry's workforce, as its productivity is not at par with the international standards.
These views were observed by the heads of various garment industries while addressing the certificate award ceremony of the passing-out students of Pakistan Readymade Garments Technical Training Institute (PRGTTI).
Speaking on the occasion, Pervez Hanif, Chairman of Board of Directors of PRGTTI and The Founders chief, said: It is essential to improve the productivity of our manpower, so that our companies can effectively compete in a trade environment."
He observed that Pakistan's garment industry was facing a tough competition in the region, especially from China.
On the establishment of PRGTTI in Lahore, Pervez said that it was a replica of Karachi institute and so far 1,500 students from Karachi and 293 from Lahore have successfully completed the course.
Sajid Saleem Minhas, vice-chairman of BoD, urged the industrialists in the garment sector to send their employees for the training and added that the institute was offering need based training courses. "If one feels the need for introduction of a specific course, they should forward their suggestions to the institute, which would carefully consider them."
Muhammad Sajid, Director Export Promotion Bureau, and Prgmea leaders Colonel Khubaib (Retd) and Naseer Malik also spoke on the occasion. Later, students securing distinction were awarded with shields and certificates.
