Naib Nazim and as many as a dozen councillors of Union Council 21(UC-21) of District Ravi Town said on Sunday that their Nazim Mian Mohammad Attiq had lost the confidence of the house, therefore, he should immediately quit the office.
Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, Mian Mohammad Attiq, Naib Nazim, along with 12 other councillors said that on April 29, 2004, they had moved no-trust move against the Nazim, which was passed by the majority, but he is not ready to quit the office as nazim.
They added that they had also brought the matter to the notice of the secretary Local Government Punjab who assured them of action but so far nothing has been done in this respect.
"If the authorities did not take action, we would have no option but to tender our resignations," they warned.
They also charged the Nazim with corruption and embezzlement of funds and said 'since his election he has done no development work in the area'. They also accused him of maltreating the councillors.
"Because of these reasons, we decided to take him to task and submitted with the secretary of the UC a notice for no-confidence move against him." But on the day of the voting, the office of the Union Council was closed and no councillor was allowed to enter the premises.
"So we were forced to assemble on the roadside where arrangements were made for secret balloting." As many as 14 councillors voted against the Nazim and the no-trust resolution was passed.
"But not only he has refused to honour the decision of the house, but is also spreading misinformation against the councillors, who voted against him," they stated.
