Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has demanded of the government to simplify the poultry vaccines registration procedure.
Chaudhry Waheed uddin Ahmad Chairman PPA's Standing Committee on Pharmaceutical told Business Recorder here Wednesday that lengthy and cumbersome procedure of registration of poultry vaccines is main hurdle in the registration of new vaccines which are necessary for the treatment of a number of poultry diseases.
He said the poultry industry had suffered huge losses due to bird flu virus in some parts of Asia.
Although, there was no bird flu virus in Pakistan but poultry industry was badly hit due to negative propaganda campaign, he added.
In order to ensure end of diseases from poultry sector, it is necessary to simplify the registration procedure for quality poultry vaccines and medicines, he asserted.
He said that demand of poultry meat, eggs, mutton, beef and milk, which are main source of proteins for human beings, is increasing in the country.
He asked the government top provide relief in taxes so as to provide cheap poultry meat, eggs, mutton, beef and milk to the general public.
To a question he said that the government must chalk out a plan for ensuring the safety of crops and in this regard concept of crop insurance must be introduced.
He called for creating awareness among the poultry farmers regarding judicious use of poultry vaccines and other drugs.
To another query he said that poultry prices are touching new peaks now a days due to shortage of supply of chicken.
He said that shortage of chicken is due to the fact that a large number of people who suffered heavy losses during recent poultry crisis have stooped their business. He hoped that chicken prices would be stabilised before May 15, 2004.
