Magisterial powers to ROs for by-polls

Chief Election Commissioner, Chief Justice Irshad Hassan Khan (Retd) has authorised the magisterial powers to District Returning Officers, Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers for by-elections in five National Assembly and two Sindh Assembly constituencies.
By-elections in NA-196 Rahimyar Khan-V, NA-236 Sanghar-III, NA-240 Karachi-II, NA-243 Karachi-V, NA-246 Karachi-VIII, PS-31 Khairpur-III and PS-127 Karachi-XXXIX are scheduled to be held on May 12.
District Returning Officers, Returning Officers and the Presiding Officers appointed for each polling station of the said constituencies have been designated these powers under the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 (Act V of 1898) and for the polling day.
These officers will exercise the magisterial powers for offences punishable under section 80, section 82A, section 83, section 84, section 85, section 86 and section 87 of the said act and to take cognisance of any such offence under any of the clause of sub-section (1) of section 190 of the said code and to try any such offence in a summary way in accordance with the provisions of the said code, relating to summary trials.
