Hundreds of residents of various localities came out on roads on Wednesday and blocked them by staging Dharna (sit-in) against the continued power breakdown which has now become order of the day.
Power broke down at 8:00 am in the morning and was restored only after six hours until then the people were suffering from sizzling heat which was more than 40-degree Centigrade here.
The change of Hesco chief has not brought any respite to people, as Brigadier Tariq Arshad (Retd) was transferred, and in his place Adeebul Hassan Rizvi, a professional engineer, has been posted as the chief executive of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco).
Rizvi has already served as the Hesco superintending engineer at Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Wapda authorities have also retired compulsorily two of Hesco executive engineers, Noor Ahmed Dayo and Jam Lakhmeer from service.
However, as people here were foreseeing changes to improve the working of electric supply yet on Wednesday the six-hour-long breakdown had disappointed them.
The eastern portion of Hyderabad city, including Hirabad, Ghariabad, Pathan Colony, Kari Mori, Sahafi Colony, Kalhora Colony, Baldia Colony, Hur Camp and other areas suffered power breakdown from 3 am on Wednesday.
The people came out on roads and blocked the national highway before the Central Prison, Hyderabad, and threw stones on passing vehicles, which caused suspension of traffic for many hours.
People said the power outage has made their lives miserable, adding they were making complaints to the SDO and other officers of Hesco, but all in vain.
Later, police arrived on the spot and on their assurance people lifted road blockade.
In Hyderabad, Qasimabad and Latifabad, the undeclared load-shedding of electricity continues unabated, which was paralysing city life as well as it renders the pumping stations of water supply and drainage at grinding halt causing shortage of water in the city.
