President General Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said that Muslim countries have to work together to galvanise the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), and promote enlightened moderation.
He was talking to Hasmy bin Agam, Malaysia's Special Envoy for Non-Aligned Movement Affairs, who called on him here, and delivered a message from Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah bin Ahmad Badawi.
He said in this regard Malaysia, as chairman of the OIC, had a critical role to play. The President assured the Malaysian envoy of Pakistan's full support for the reform and renewal of the OIC and for the implementations of the momentous decisions taken by the last OIC Summit.
Turning to the election of the next OIC secretary-general, the President emphasised the need for taking a decision through consensus, so that all the energies of the Islamic countries could be devoted to the consolidation within the Organisation and economic and social development of the Ummah.
Hasmy bin Agam said both Malaysia and Pakistan with the co-operation of other Islamic countries would continue to make efforts for enlightenment and moderation, adding Pakistan's voice and support in this endeavour was of crucial importance.
He also conveyed the wishes of goodwill from Prime Minister Badawi to the government and the people of Pakistan.
Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar also attended the meeting.
